Latest Update on Sako's health

Thank God, since Sako had the heart transplant surgery on June 22-23rd, he has been getting better every day. By God's grace, Sako can do things he has not been able to do for over a year like walking for more than 10 minutes; Sako has been able to walk for over an hour and soon he will be given permission to start exercising. Praise the Lord!
Sako still live in Los Angeles with his mother near the hospital where he goes at least once a month for testing and biopsy. His sister Joelle was a great support for Sako and his mom from June till September until she returned back home to her family.
However, now that 3 months have passed and Sako keeps improving thank God, the heart transplant team is going to have an international meeting with the doctors in Lebanon to discuss the possibility of allowing Sako to go back to Lebanon for the time being. If Sako returns to Lebanon soon, he will need to come back to Los Angeles in June for testing to be done after one year from the transplant surgery.
We thank you for your support.  God has been providing for Sako and his mom through your generosity. We are forever grateful to God for your love and goodness. This fundraising campaign will continue at least until one year passes after the surgery. Please help us by sharing it with others who might contribute to this great cause.
We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly 3 calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, 4 knowing, brothers loved by God, how you were chosen.  1 Thessalonians 1:2-4

Update on Sako's surgery

On Sunday June 22nd at 3pm, we received the long-awaited call informing us that there is an available matching heart for Sako and the surgery is scheduled for 10 pm. Yet there is possibility the surgery might not happen if they found any problem with the heart after retrieving it. Sako was taken in at 9:45pm and we got the text message at 12:45 am stating the heart was accepted and the surgery will start soon once the heart is delivered. Thank God the surgery was successful and Sako got to the ICU unit after the surgery around 6:00am. He remained in the ICU intubated till Friday morning; after being extubated he spent few more days recovering in the ICU then a regular hospital ward. Thank God few days later Sako got discharged from the hospital and is recovering at an apartment in Los Angeles as he needs to stay close to the hospital for weekly visits (biopsy, blood tests..). Please keep Sako and his family as he continues to recover after such major surgery. We thank God daily for the miracles He is doing in Sako's life and for all of you praying and supporting him in this journey. Please be assured that you are being prayed for.

Update on Sako's health situation:

Sako has been admitted to Cedars Sinai Hospital on Wednesday June 4th.  On Friday, he has undergone a procedure "Swan-Ganz Catheterization". Since the results showed that Sako's heart is very weak, intra-aortic balloon pump insertion was needed and done in the evening. Sako has been in the cardiac ICU since the balloon pump was inserted. Thank God as a result of those 2 procedures, he is stable while waiting for the heart transplant procedure. The Heart Transplant team at the hospital studied his case and found him qualified for a heart transplant surgery. After we get the insurance approval, Sako will be placed on the list for heart transplant in the higher status 2. Please keep Sako and his family in your prayers during this trying time.

Sako's story

Disclaimer: this is Marise Frangie, the Director of Cedar of Lebanon FertilityCare Center. The story that I am sharing below and this fundraising campaign I am running are not part of Cedar of Lebanon FertilityCare Center work like the previous fundraiser we did in 2023. Yet I am using my website to promote this campaign because this is a humanitarian cause dear to my heart as Sarkis is my sister in law's brother. Also I know that using my name and my website gives credibility for the information below and will put lot of people at ease in supporting Sako. Please rest assured that every penny you donate will make a difference in the life of Sarkis and we will continuously update everyone here on his condition with your support and prayers.

Sarkis Makary (aka Sako) 22 years old, born and raised in Lebanon, had been diagnosed 3 years ago with dilated cardiomyopathy. Sako has hearing problem since childhood and pacemaker implantation for complete AV block few years ago. His condition deteriorated in April 2024 and he benefited from upgrade to ICD device. Currently he has BIVENTRICULAR failure and his condition requires urgent listing for heart transplant.

This heartbreaking situation is causing enough stress for the family and will become a financial burden especially as Sako and his mom are expected to stay in USA for at least one year. Already just during the month of May while in Lebanon getting ready to come to LA, the expenses for the passports, visas, medical bills for different testing and hospital admission in Lebanon, travel to USA, international medical Insurance for Sarkis added up to $5770.  Sako and his mom already arrived to LA and since their arrival the bills added up to $450 (food shopping, phone line, transportation between airport - apartment - doctor’s office...).

We are asking for your help as we know the monthly expenses incurred will exceed $4000 in Los Angeles ($921 medical insurance, lodging in an area close to Cedar Sinai Hospital - not less than $2000, transportation between hospital and lodging location, food, out of pocket medical bills..)

Your donation is greatly appreciated. Every amount makes a difference. With everyone’s help in supporting and sharing this campaign with others, we can definitely reach our minimum goal of $50000 by God’s grace and support Sako and his mother in this challenging phase of his life away from his family and his home country.
So far, $23568 have been donated even though we had not had a chance to share widely the campaign on social media. Thank you!!!
